
Four scholarships are being offered for first-time participants
of the 20th Annual Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway, January 18-21,
2013, at the Jersey Shore. Recipients may choose from 17
workshops in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, memoir, and more. In
addition to workshops, the three-day conference also offers
craft talks, one-on-one tutorials, a featured reading, open mics,
yoga, and dancing at the Getaway Disco.
We have two different categories of scholarships available:
● The Toni Brown Memorial Scholarship will offer places to two poets or writers age
31 and over. Deadline: Nov. 18, 2012.
● The Jan-ai Scholarship will sponsor two poets or writers between the ages of 18 - 30 who are residents of
NJ, NY, or PA. Deadline: Nov. 30, 2012.

The
Toni Brown Memorial Scholarship celebrates the life of
Winter Getaway Poetry Faculty Member Toni Brown and commemorates
her untimely death. Funded by our faculty and staff, it offers
places for two poets or writers age 31 and over to the 2013
Getaway.
First Place
This scholarship covers tuition and a double room package (3
nights accommodation in a shared room, 3 breakfasts, 3
lunches and 1 dinner). The recipient will only need to pay for transportation and
other dinners.
Second Place
This scholarship covers tuition. The recipient will need to pay for
a room package, transportation, and other dinners.
Toni Brown Memorial Scholarship Application
A panel of judges will review the submissions and make their
selections based on a combination of merit and need.
Applications must be submitted online and received by Nov. 18, 2012.

the Toni Brown Memorial Scholarship has now passed.
The Jan-ai Scholarship
commemorates the life and untimely death of young writer, poet,
and photographer, Jennifer Cakert (1980 - 2006). Funded by the
Jan-ai Scholarship Fund and Murphy Writing Seminars, it offers
places for two poets or writers who are between the ages of 18 -
30 and residents of NJ, NY, or PA to the 2013 Getaway.
First Place
This scholarship covers tuition, a quad room package (3 nights
accommodation in a shared room with 3 other individuals, 3
breakfasts, 3 lunches and 1 dinner). The recipient will only need to pay for transportation and
other dinners.
Second Place
This scholarship covers partial tuition and a quad room
package (3 nights accommodation in a shared room with 3 other
individuals, 3 breakfasts
and 3 lunches). The recipient will only need to pay $100 toward
his or her tuition as well as for transportation and
dinners.
Jan-ai Scholarship Application
A panel of judges will review the submissions and make their
selections based on a combination of merit and need.
