Announcing: 27th Annual Winter Getaway – January 14-18, 2021

Dear Writers,

We are writing to let you know that the 27th Annual Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway will be held online in January 2021. Good news: We’re adding an extra day to the schedule, so this year’s Getaway will run from Thursday evening, January 14 through Monday afternoon, January 18, 2021.

Because we don’t know how the pandemic will unfold in the coming months, we have made the decision to hold an online conference that will ensure our community can write together, even if we’re all at home.

We are planning to offer many of the same things for which the Winter Getaway is known and loved. You’ll be able to choose from workshops in poetry, fiction, nonfiction and memoir. We will also offer open mics, lunch hour table talks, yoga and even a virtual Getaway Disco. Plus, there will be readings each evening featuring our talented faculty and a Featured Reader we’re excited to announce in the coming weeks.

Registration and scholarship applications will open by October 1. While we’re still finalizing the details, we’re pleased to announce that our faculty will include Emma Eisenberg, Barbara Daniels, Paul Lisicky, Cynthia Dewi Oka, Catherine Doty, Celeste Doaks and more. While we know it’s not the same as being together at Seaview, we hope we can offer a safe and meaningful alternative to an in-person gathering.

Many of our “re-PETERs” know that we have been offering online programs since the start of the pandemic. If you haven’t attended a Zoom event yet, we invite you to join us at one of our upcoming Write Times, or watch the videos from our Virtual Reading Series this spring and summer. You might be surprised at how intimate, inspiring and generative these online programs can be.

Whatever changes the year ahead will bring, one thing will remain the same: writing matters. Good things happen when writers dedicate time to writing and connecting with a community.

We’re excited to share more of our plans with you in the weeks to come. We hope you stay well, and that we’ll write with you soon!

Warmest,

Peter, Stephanie and Taylor

"I cannot express it enough: the writing opportunities that you provide are a GODSEND. We are all so busy in our daily lives–working, caregiving for young and old, surviving our daily challenges–that to have an uninterrupted respite to write and speak only of the craft of writing for a whole weekend is bliss. I truly enjoyed the Winter Getaway and its supportive community." – Karen, Highland Park, NJ
