Dear Murphy Writing Community,
If you, like us, have a big ol’ hole in your heart where last year’s Getaway should have been, you’ll be thrilled to know that it will return this year better than ever. The 26th Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway will be held at the Seaview Hotel from January 17-20, 2020.
Despite pining for the Getaway last year, we kept busy planning our other retreats and getaways, including our upcoming trips to Scotland and New Hampshire. We particularly loved seeing so many of you last winter at our New Year’s Writing Retreat and at Get Away to Write – Florida.
Everyone at Seaview has certainly been keeping busy, too. Nearly every inch of the resort has been renovated, including all the guest rooms, which were stripped to the rafters and rebuilt. Here’s a sneak peek of what awaits you. The hotel is sleeker, brighter and more comfortable, yet still pays tribute to its historic roots.
We, too, are staying true to our roots. As always, we’ll offer the supportive, challenging workshops you’ve come to know and love, with the same warm and welcoming community of writers.
We’re thrilled to announce that the 2020 Winter Getaway will feature two special guests: poets Yusef Komunyakaa and Denise Duhamel. We also have a number of new workshops for you to choose from and new faculty to welcome, including Paul Lisicky, Tom McAllister and Lisa Romeo. Plus, it’s a banner year for Winter Getaway faculty publishing. We will feature their new books in the months that follow.
There is one other change we wanted to let you know about: our beloved faculty member Stephen Dunn will not be leading a workshop for the first time in twenty years. If his schedule permits, he and his wife, Barbara Hurd, another beloved faculty member, will still come out to enjoy the festivities.
We hope that you’ll join us, and invite your friends too. We can’t wait to see you—and write with you—at Seaview!
Warmest,
Peter, Amanda, Taylor, and our new team member Stephanie Cawley
P.S. – We don’t have current email addresses for all of our past participants. If you think we missed someone, please pass this note on to them.
