The 29th Annual Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway, a supportive, participant-focused writers’ conference, will take place January 13-16, 2023. Here are some of the things we’re most excited about this year:
More Time to Use the “Early Bard” Discount
Our “Early Bard” Discount will allow you to save $25 on your room package. The deadline to use this discount has been pushed to November 20, giving you plenty of time to register and save.
Poetry Incubator: A Generative Writing Workshop
This is the same rotating-style Winter Getaway poetry workshop “re-PETERs” know and love, with a new name selected by our community. You may remember this workshop as “Advanced Poetry,” “Poetry Workshop” or the “Poetry Circus.” Peter will still be the ringleader, offering prompts and direction each morning.

In addition to reuniting with some of our long-standing Getaway faculty, we have new faculty to welcome who have never taught at the Winter Getaway before:
- Cynthia Arrieu-King

Scholarship Qualifications
We are offering scholarships to attend the Getaway again: the Toni Brown Memorial Scholarship, and the Robert Hayden Scholarship. This year, to allow more writers to qualify for the Robert Hayden Scholarship, we’ve adjusted the age qualification range from 18-29 to 18-30. The Toni Brown Memorial Scholarship will accept applications for anyone aged 31+. Learn more.
More Generous Cancellation Policy Continues
Like last year, we’ve temporarily revised our Cancellation Policy. Learn more.
Safety Webpage
We’ve updated our safety information for 2023, which has its own home on this webpage.
Friday Dessert Reception Stays
Friday night’s dessert reception before our Opening Program was a hit last year, so we’ll be bringing it back this year. We have always encouraged eating dinner beforehand if you have a hearty appetite, so be sure to take our advice again this year. Seaview’s Coastal Grille will be open for business if you don’t want to eat offsite.
We look forward to seeing you in January.
