Poetry Circus Special Guest Workshop
with Patrick Rosal

Patrick Rosal

Poetry workshop in New Jersey
January 14-17, 2022
Led by Special Guest Patrick Rosal

*Limited to just 10 participants per session.*

Experienced poets participating in The Poetry Circus are invited to work with Patrick Rosal during one of their three group feedback sessions.

In your feedback session with Patrick, you will bring a poem in progress (30 line maximum) or a new poem written to the day’s assignment to be discussed with the group. As Patrick describes, “It’s like a birthday, which is just a date, until people come to bring gifts and tell stories.” Instead of a traditional critique session, Patrick will create an open space to elaborate on and celebrate each poem presented. You and your fellow participants will be invited to discuss, ask questions and do collaborative creative work to arrive at a deeper understanding of each poem.

How it works:

  • There is a $95 surcharge for this group session, which is limited to 10 participants.
  • Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to one session with Patrick per person.
  • Note: The session with Patrick is not a one-on-one tutorial, but a group workshop with 10 participants.

During your other two feedback sessions, you will work with additional members of our talented faculty. Each has a unique and encouraging style, which will nurture your poetry in different ways.

“A poem that I wrote at the Getaway a mere 2 weeks ago has just been accepted by Gargoyle, a Virginia journal. I only submitted it on Sunday and the editor, Richard Peabody, took it right away. I listened very carefully to the suggestions during the workshop, and spent time working on the revision. I’ve had several other Getaway poems published, but this is the soonest after a Getaway! I can’t tell you how much this good news has uplifted my spirits.”
~ Shirley, Baltimore, MD

About

This writing workshop is part of the Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway, held each January. Peter E. Murphy started the Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway in 1994 based on his belief that when writers leave behind distractions to gather in an encouraging community, they will make breakthroughs in their art.

Celebrating its 32nd year, the Getaway is one of the oldest and largest writer's conferences in the winter season, attracting writers from across the globe.

"I cannot express it enough: the writing opportunities that you provide are a GODSEND. We are all so busy in our daily lives–working, caregiving for young and old, surviving our daily challenges–that to have an uninterrupted respite to write and speak only of the craft of writing for a whole weekend is bliss. I truly enjoyed the Winter Getaway and its supportive community." – Karen, Highland Park, NJ
