Exploding the Moment:
An Advanced Memoir Workshop

Writing workshop in New Jersey
January 14-17, 2022
Led by Krys Malcolm Belc

Advanced Memoir Workshop NJ

Learn how to make crucial moments in your memoir project “pop” with life. In this workshop, we will discuss published excerpts to explore how memoirists create tension in key scenes from their life stories. In a supportive, generative space, we will re-envision pivotal moments in our larger projects with exciting writing prompts and workshop our own short excerpts. Be ready to submit a chapter of your memoir-in-progress (up to 2,500 words) that contains a scene you know needs to be enlivened by Dec. 15 (or, if registering after that date, within a week of registering).

*Limited to just 10 participants.*

“I came into the getaway not knowing what to expect and left counting down the days until I could come back. It was easy to take risks and attempt something new with such a wonderful community of writers who all expressed such support and encouragement. It was something that I did not realize I was missing in my life until I experienced it. Thank you!”
~ Trista, Toms River, NJ

About

This writing workshop is part of the Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway, held each January. Peter E. Murphy started the Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway in 1994 based on his belief that when writers leave behind distractions to gather in an encouraging community, they will make breakthroughs in their art.

Celebrating its 32nd year, the Getaway is one of the oldest and largest writer's conferences in the winter season, attracting writers from across the globe.

"I cannot express it enough: the writing opportunities that you provide are a GODSEND. We are all so busy in our daily lives–working, caregiving for young and old, surviving our daily challenges–that to have an uninterrupted respite to write and speak only of the craft of writing for a whole weekend is bliss. I truly enjoyed the Winter Getaway and its supportive community." – Karen, Highland Park, NJ
