The Craft of Flash Fiction
Writing Workshop in New Jersey
January 16-19, 2026
Led by Tyrese L. Coleman

Stories under a thousand words are wildly popular, yet many writers misunderstand their most basic elements. In this generative workshop, we’ll read flash pieces from a myriad of writers like Kathy Fish, Alice Walker and Lydia Davis. Paying close attention to craft techniques specific to flash, we’ll discuss what makes these samples impactful. We’ll keep a snapshot of these elements in mind as we write our own stories. Everyone will be encouraged to share their new work with fellow participants and to give and receive supportive feedback. Writers of all genres and experience are welcome.
*Limited to just 10 participants.*
“The workshop leaders are talented and compassionate, pushing you to new levels. The atmosphere is charged with creativity and appreciation for the work of others. I travel from Chicago to attend and have not been disappointed.”
